GiveRefer Chrome Extension — Privacy Policy

Last updated: August 2026

This policy explains what the GiveRefer Chrome Extension (the “Extension”) accesses, how that information is used, and the browser permissions it requires. The Extension is operated by Go Veg Go Green Club Pvt Ltd (“GiveRefer”, “we”).

1. Summary

The Extension helps you find GiveRefer referral offers only on the brand websites GiveRefer supports. It does not run on other websites. It does not collect your browsing history, and it never sells your data.

2. What the Extension Accesses

  • The current site’s address — only on supported brand sites, and only to match a referral offer for that site. The Extension’s content scripts are registered exclusively for the supported domains fetched from our server; on every other site nothing runs. On Google and DuckDuckGo search-results pages only, the Extension also reads your search query text to detect whether you are searching for a supported brand’s referral code — this is the only case where it runs on a non-brand site, and it is limited to those two search engines.
  • Anonymous usage events — we record non-identifying events such as “offer shown”, “code copied”, “vote cast”, or “wallet viewed”, along with the related store and the surface (banner, popup, or search-results card). These events contain no name, email, account ID, or page content.
  • Your account profile, if you sign in — your name, email, and nickname, retrieved from your GiveRefer account so the Extension can show you’re signed in and personalize the popup.
  • Referral codes and links you choose to submit — if you use the Extension’s code-detection prompt on a brand’s referral page, the code or link you review and confirm is sent to GiveRefer to add to your account. Nothing is submitted without you clicking Submit.
  • Your account activity, if you sign in — your coin balance and recent coin activity, referral codes you’ve submitted and their click counts, codes you’ve saved, votes you’ve cast on referral codes, and brand-domain requests you’ve made, so the Extension can display and manage this data on your behalf.
  • Local storage on your device — we cache the list of supported domains, display throttles (so prompts aren’t repetitive), your extension settings, and, if you sign in, your session token.

3. How We Use It

To detect whether a supported referral offer exists for the page or search you are on, to display offers and referral codes, to measure aggregate funnel performance (e.g. how often offers are shown vs. used), to operate account features if you sign in — including displaying your coin balance and reward progress, awarding coins for actions like submitting a referral code or claiming your daily login streak, and ranking referral codes using aggregated vote counts.

4. Accounts & Sign-In

Signing in is optional. If you choose to sign in, you authenticate through the normal GiveRefer website login, and we issue a token that is stored locally in the Extension and used to call your account’s API endpoints. While signed in you can save referral codes to your account, submit your own referral codes and see their performance, claim daily coin rewards, vote on referral codes, request that we support a new brand, and manage your referral page. You can sign out at any time, which revokes the token.

5. Permissions We Request

  • storage — cache the supported-domain list, display throttles, your settings, and your sign-in token.
  • tabs — open the tracked GiveRefer offer page when you choose to view an offer.
  • scripting — register the on-page UI only for supported brand domains.
  • alarms — periodically refresh the supported-domain list.
  • identity — complete the optional sign-in flow.
  • notifications — show a brief confirmation when the keyboard shortcut copies a code; you can turn this off in the Extension’s Settings.
  • host access — required so the Extension can run on any supported brand domain, since that list changes over time; actual execution is restricted to the supported list, plus Google and DuckDuckGo search-results pages for the search-card feature described above — not all sites.

6. Data Sharing & Selling

We do not sell your personal information and we do not share it with third parties for advertising. Anonymous usage events and account data are used only by GiveRefer to operate and improve the Extension and your GiveRefer account.

7. Retention

Locally cached data remains on your device until you clear it or remove the Extension. Aggregate, anonymous usage events are retained for analytics. Account data — including your profile, coin balance and activity, submitted and saved codes, votes, and site requests — is retained per the main GiveRefer Privacy Policy.
