TraffMonetizer describes its scheme as an affiliate programme rather than a referral programme. That sounds like a triviality and is not — the two words describe different relationships, and almost nobody in this market uses the accurate one.

TraffMonetizer shares your internet bandwidth with paying third parties and runs a scheme paying 10% of what everyone you bring in earns, for as long as they earn it. It calls that an **affiliate programme**, and getting that word right deserves acknowledgement, because this site has spent several batches correcting platforms that get it wrong.

The distinction is not pedantry. A referral is telling someone about a product you use because you think they would benefit. An affiliate arrangement is a commercial relationship in which you are paid to bring the platform customers, with your income depending on their volume rather than on their satisfaction. The two carry different obligations: an affiliate is, in most jurisdictions and on most platforms, expected to disclose the arrangement when promoting. Products that call an affiliate scheme a "refer and earn" blur that, and this site has flagged the same substitution on Todoist, ZuluTrade, Fiverr, Eventbrite and Humble Bundle among others. Businesses pay to route web requests through real household connections, because websites treat residential traffic differently from data-centre traffic. Their requests exit under your IP, from your home, on your ISP account.

The three standing consequences apply. Most major consumer ISPs prohibit commercial bandwidth resale on a residential line, so running this is likely a breach of your internet contract, with throttling, a forced business tariff or disconnection as the possible outcomes. You cannot see or control the traffic attributed to your address, and platform terms in this category generally indemnify the platform rather than the user — Trend Micro has published research on the risk profile of proxyware specifically. And the compensation is a few dollars a month.

If you are going to participate in this market, participating through a platform that describes its own commercial arrangements accurately is a reasonable preference. It does not change the underlying trade, but it is a signal about how the rest of the terms are likely to be written.
