Why Choose Gpay?
The referred friend's first successful payment must happen inside 28 days of using the code. This is the single most common reason a Google Pay referral pays nothing.
Referrals and ordinary scratch cards draw on the same annual ceiling across all Google Pay offers, running 1 April to 31 March. Heavy users hit it without realising.
Google Pay referral rewards are excluded in Tamil Nadu under state law — a restriction that appears on no other page ranking for this query.
About Gpay
Google Pay runs UPI payments straight from your bank account, and unlike almost every other brand on this site it publishes its referral terms in full. The conditions are specific, and three of them decide whether you get paid.
Google Pay is the rare case where the brand documents its referral properly, so there is no need to guess. The referrer receives ₹201 and the new user receives ₹21 — note the direction, because pages promising "₹201 on signup" have it backwards.
The condition that decides everything is the clock. Your friend must make their first successful payment within 28 days of using your referral code or link. Miss the window and neither side is paid, with no way to reinstate it. If you share a code with someone who installs the app and does not get round to paying anyone for a month, that referral is simply gone.
What counts as that first payment is defined narrowly. It must be a payment to another person, a bill payment, a payment to a merchant site or app, or a transfer to an external bank account. Insurance premium payments do not count. Nor do payments to Google Pay users sharing the same account details as your friend — which is how Google closes off the self-referral loop of paying yourself from a second handset.
Then the annual ceilings, which are the least-known part of the program. In a financial year running 1 April to 31 March you can earn a maximum of 100 new-referral rewards and 25 welcome-back rewards, and no more than ₹9,000 in total across all Google Pay offers. That last figure is the one that catches heavy users: your scratch cards from ordinary payments draw on the same ₹9,000 allowance as your referrals. Once it is exhausted, further rewards stop regardless of how many people you refer.
Two eligibility details worth knowing. Google Pay referral rewards are not available in Tamil Nadu, because of state law. And your friend needs an Indian phone number with the +91 country code, while you need a valid linked bank account to receive anything.
There is also a mechanism almost nobody publishes: the welcome-back reward. A Google Pay user who has been inactive for more than 180 days can be brought back through a referral link, paying ₹21 to each side. It is smaller than a new-user referral, but it means lapsed users are not worthless — and 25 of them a year are allowed.
Rewards usually appear in the Rewards section within 48 hours, and the money can take up to seven business days to reach your bank account.
