That was replaced by a one-time conversion earning instead, and — as of a Partner Program update effective February 17, 2026 — that one-time earning no longer even requires a referral link: any non-member who hits a paywall on your story and joins Medium as a result now qualifies, whether or not they arrived through a link you shared. On top of that, paywalled stories earn ongoing income from member reading and engagement.
