Myprotein offers ₹1,500 in credit plus a chance to win clothing. One of those is a reward and the other is marketing — and neither is how you should judge a supplement retailer.

Myprotein sells sports nutrition — protein powders, bars, vitamins — and fitness clothing. It was founded in 2004 and bought by The Hut Group in 2011. THG also owns LookFantastic, Glossybox, Cult Beauty and Zavvi, making it the largest single-owner group in this export.

The offer has two halves and they are not the same kind of thing. ₹1,500 in credit is a reward, subject to the usual store-credit conditions. A chance to win clothing worth ₹10,000 is a prize draw, worth its probability multiplied by its value — neither of which is published — which means an expected value close to zero for any individual. This site's standing treatment, applied to Deliveroo's $50 draw and FabHotels' Goa trip elsewhere in this export, is to delete the draw and evaluate what remains. If the draw is doing the persuading, the offer is weaker than it looks.

How to actually compare a supplement retailer, which matters far more:

Cost per gram of protein, not price per tub. This is the single most important habit in the category and almost nobody applies it. Tub sizes differ, serving sizes differ, and — decisively — protein content per serving differs. A cheaper tub with a lower protein percentage per scoop can be more expensive per gram of what you are actually buying. Take the price, divide by total protein in the container, and compare that number. It routinely reverses the ranking that price-per-tub suggests.

Flavouring and additives affect the ratio. Flavoured powders contain less protein per 100g than unflavoured ones. That is not deception, but it does mean flavoured and unflavoured products are not directly comparable on headline price.

Discounting is continuous in this category, as in beauty. Sports nutrition retailers run sitewide events frequently enough that the list price is rarely the transacting price, so timing beats any code — a point that applies across the whole THG group, as our LookFantastic page sets out.

And the regulatory distinction from our HealthKart page applies here directly: sports nutrition products are generally regulated as food rather than as medicines. That means they must be safe, correctly composed and correctly labelled — but they are not required to demonstrate that they produce a physiological outcome, and they may not claim to treat anything. The verb is the tell: "supports" and "aids" are the vocabulary of a food-regulated product. Where a claim goes further than that, be more sceptical rather than less.

On the credit, the standing conditions: it is spendable only at Myprotein, not withdrawable, and worth nothing if you were not going to buy. Check the minimum spend, the expiry, and whether it stacks with sale prices — because in a category discounting this often, credit excluded from promotions is credit that is difficult to use well.
