SBI Securities Referral Code
The ₹400 is a brokerage rebate — worth nothing if you don't trade
SBI Securities is the stockbroking subsidiary of State Bank of India, offering equity and derivatives trading, mutual funds, IPOs, bonds and insurance through 200+ branches.
Genie Says
SBI Securities offered ₹300 in cash or voucher plus ₹400 in brokerage reversal — and a rebate is only worth its face value to someone who generates that much brokerage, so a buy-and-hold investor realises far less than the ₹700 headline. The reward requires the referred person to place at least one trade, arrives within 45 days, and is capped at 55 referrals a month, a ceiling designed for volume referrers. The governing NSE circular has been in abeyance since 24 January 2025.

How to Use a SBI Securities Referral Code
Separate cash from rebate
₹300 is a payment. ₹400 in brokerage reversal is a discount on fees, worth its face value only if you generate that much brokerage.
Value it as yourself
A buy-and-hold investor may realise little or none of the ₹400. Compute the offer against your own trading, not the headline.
Note "cash or voucher"
Where an offer reserves the choice, assume the cheaper option is available to the issuer — vouchers carry expiry and restrictions.
Diarise the 45 days
Payment follows account creation by up to 45 days, and a trade is required. Unchased rewards are the commonest quiet failure.

Why Choose SBI Securities?
Brokerage reversal only has value to someone who would have paid that brokerage. Adding it to cash inflates the headline.
The referred person must place at least one trade, so an account that opens and sits idle pays nothing.
That ceiling is designed around volume referrers, not around someone recommending a broker to a friend.
State Bank ownership speaks to counterparty strength. It does not make a rebate equal to cash.
About SBI Securities
The offer was ₹300 in cash or voucher plus ₹400 in brokerage reversal. Those are not the same kind of thing, and adding them together overstates what a careful investor would actually receive.
SBI Securities is the stockbroking subsidiary of State Bank of India, with more than 200 branches and a full product range — equity and derivatives, mutual funds, IPOs, fixed deposits, bonds and insurance. Its referral offer was ₹300 in cash or voucher plus ₹400 in brokerage reversal, and the two halves deserve separating.
The ₹300 is a payment. Note the "cash or voucher" formulation though — those are not equivalent, and where an offer reserves the choice, the reader should assume the cheaper option is available to the issuer. A voucher carries an expiry, a merchant restriction and a redemption process; cash carries none of those.
The ₹400 is not a payment at all. Brokerage reversal is a rebate against fees you would otherwise pay, so it is worth ₹400 only to someone who goes on to generate ₹400 of brokerage. For an investor who opens an account, buys a few holdings and leaves them alone, it is worth a fraction of that, and quite possibly nothing. Adding a rebate to a cash payment and presenting the total as the value of the offer is the single most common inflation technique in financial referrals, and it works because the two look alike in a headline.
The conditions around it matter as much. The referred person must open a Demat and trading account and place at least one trade — so the reward is gated on activity, not merely on account opening. Payment follows within 45 days of successful account creation, which is a long enough lag that people forget to chase it. You must validate your PAN to generate a referral link. And there is a cap of 55 referrals per month, which is an unusual number and tells you the programme is designed with high-volume referrers in mind rather than someone recommending a broker to a friend.
The wider regulatory picture applies here too, and it is unresolved rather than settled. The National Stock Exchange disallowed brokerage sharing for referrals on 14 August 2024 with the express purpose of preventing trade inducement, requiring referrers to be appointed Authorised Persons with prior exchange approval. SEBI followed on 22 October 2024 barring registered entities from associating with unregistered ones. Then NSE circular NSE/INSP/66284 of 24 January 2025 kept the August circular in abeyance, and a SEBI consultation paper on broker referral programmes is in development.
If you are weighing this, the useful test is to value the offer as a careful investor rather than as an active trader: ₹300 in whatever form it arrives, plus however much of ₹400 in brokerage you would genuinely have spent. For many people that total is closer to ₹300 than to ₹700.
