The referral cap and the payment method are both in this store's own FAQ, and both contradict the headline that sat above them.

This listing previously described the reward as "earn up to €150 or £300" with "instant rewards." Both headlines are contradicted by the store's own FAQ, sitting in the same record.

What the FAQ actually says, which is the more reliable source because it is specific:
- The cap is 15 friends, and the headline totals are simply that cap multiplied out — the Netherlands at 15 × €10 = €150, and Belgium and Germany at 15 × €20 = €300.
- The €300 tier in the FAQ is euros, for Belgium and Germany — a pound figure alongside a euro figure was a currency error, not a regional variant.
- The reward is a discount on your next month's subscription fee — not cash, not credit, not a transfer. "Earn up to €150" describes a smaller bill.

The arithmetic that follows changes the offer completely: a discount applied to your next monthly bill can only be consumed one month at a time. Recruit all 15 friends in a single week and you do not receive €150 — you receive a stream of monthly reductions, and you must remain a paying subscriber long enough to use them. The full headline figure therefore takes over a year of continuous billing to actually receive, and if you cancel, the unused remainder is worth nothing.

"Instant rewards" is wrong for a separate reason. The FAQ states the friend must pick up their bike before the reward applies. That is a physical act at a store, on their schedule — the one step in the chain you cannot do anything about.

On the company itself, the picture is straightforwardly good. In May 2026 Swapfiets acquired the premium urban brand Dance — it was the buyer, not the acquired party. The combined business operates in around 45 cities with roughly 280,000 members and more than 75,000 subscription e-bikes, strengthening its position in Paris, Berlin and Hamburg, and is backed by Pon Holdings, a large established bicycle group. Shared mobility more broadly is better read as consolidating than uniformly failing: in a capital-heavy business with thin margins, an operator either reaches scale or is absorbed by one that has — and from a reader's seat, being acquired and failing can look identical, because the terms signed up to are now somebody else's to honour.

What to check before subscribing: the monthly price against how often you would genuinely ride, since a subscription is only cheap if used; the repair-response commitment and whether a service point is near you, because that turnaround is the product; the minimum term and notice period; the theft policy and what excess you pay, which is the largest real risk in city cycling; and whether your city is served after the Dance integration, since overlapping networks get rationalised.
