AppSumo's referral is straightforward and has one deadline that quietly voids it. The reward is also credit rather than cash, which matters more here than it does elsewhere.

AppSumo pays a referral reward of $10 in AppSumo Credits when someone you refer becomes a customer. Two things about that sentence do the work.

First, it is credit rather than cash. AppSumo Credits are spent on AppSumo, against the software deals it sells. If you buy lifetime software deals regularly that is close to face value; if you referred someone as a favour and have no intention of buying anything yourself, the reward is worth considerably less than $10 to you. AppSumo also reserves the right to change the value of the referral reward at any time, so treat $10 as the current figure rather than a fixed term.

Second, the clock. The referred customer must make their first purchase within 30 days of clicking your referral link. Not within 30 days of buying something, and not open-ended — 30 days from the click. AppSumo's deals rotate constantly and people habitually bookmark the site and come back when something relevant appears, which is exactly the behaviour this condition punishes. If you are recommending AppSumo to someone, it is worth pointing them at it when there is a deal they actually want rather than as a general suggestion.

The referred person must be a genuinely new customer making their first ever AppSumo purchase. And self-referral is explicitly excluded: AppSumo's terms state the referred customer and the referrer cannot be the same person, including via two email addresses.

Worth being straight about the underlying product, since this is a page about recommending it. AppSumo sells lifetime deals on early-stage software. Some are excellent value and some are for tools that do not survive long enough to justify "lifetime". That is a real consideration when sending a friend there, and $10 in credits is not a reason to talk anyone into a purchase they were not going to make.
