Bitbuy Referral Code
Bitbuy's "$10 in free money" is $5 each — and Robinhood now owns it
Bitbuy is a Canadian regulated cryptocurrency trading platform, acquired by Robinhood in 2025 as part of its purchase of WonderFi, which also owns Coinsquare and Bitcoin.ca.
Genie Says
Bitbuy's advertised "$10 in free money" is $5 to you and $5 to the person you referred — a two-sided total presented as the referrer's reward. The $5 requires them to deposit $250 or more, making it a 2% rebate. More consequentially, Bitbuy is now owned by Robinhood through its ~C$250m acquisition of WonderFi (final court order 21 July 2025), which also brought Coinsquare and Bitcoin.ca, around CA$2.1bn in customer assets and about 300,000 accounts. Robinhood also owns Bitstamp, bought for about $200m in a deal announced June 2024 and completed 2025. So holding at Bitbuy, Bitstamp and Coinsquare is not diversifying — one parent reaches all three.

How to Use a Bitbuy Referral Code
Halve the headline
"$10 in free money" is $5 to you and $5 to them. A two-sided total is not your reward.
Convert to a rate
$5 on a required $250 deposit is a 2% rebate — genuine if they were depositing anyway, poor if the offer caused it.
Check the parent before diversifying
Robinhood owns Bitbuy, Bitstamp and Coinsquare. Holding at several of them is not spreading risk.
Ask which regime covers you
AML registration is about financial crime; securities oversight is about conduct and client assets. Neither is deposit insurance.

Why Choose Bitbuy?
A recurring framing across this category — the advertised total is often both sides added together, not the referrer's reward alone.
WonderFi brought Bitbuy, Coinsquare and Bitcoin.ca — around CA$2.1bn in customer assets and ~300,000 accounts.
One corporate failure, policy change or compliance decision can reach every brand in the group.
Ask specifically what happens to your balance if the platform fails, and read the client agreement for the answer.
About Bitbuy
The headline adds both sides together. You receive $5, your friend receives $5, and it needs a $250 deposit — which makes it a 2% rebate.
Bitbuy advertises "$10 in free money just for sharing" — but that figure is not $10 to you. You receive $5 and the person you referred receives $5, and the total of the two sides is presented as though it were the referrer's reward. "You both get X" is not "you get 2X" — and this framing is common enough across the category to be worth naming as a pattern rather than treating as a one-off.
Then convert what remains into a rate. The $5 requires the referred person to deposit $250 or more. Five dollars on a $250 deposit is a 2% rebate on money they must move onto the platform — the same arithmetic our ZenGo page applies to a $10 reward on a $500 purchase. It is a real 2% if they were depositing $250 anyway. If the offer is what causes the deposit, then a $5 reward has moved $250 of someone else's money into a volatile asset class, which is a poor trade for them and not a good reason for you to make it.
Now the ownership, which is the more consequential fact.
Bitbuy is owned by Robinhood. It came with WonderFi, which Robinhood acquired for around C$250 million — announced 13 May 2025, approved by WonderFi shareholders on 17 July 2025, with a final order from the Supreme Court of British Columbia on 21 July 2025. WonderFi also owns Coinsquare and Bitcoin.ca, and its platforms together held around CA$2.1 billion in customer assets across roughly 300,000 Canadian accounts.
And Robinhood also owns Bitstamp, acquired for about $200 million in a deal announced in June 2024 and completed in 2025, which brought it more than 50 regulatory licences.
Why that matters to someone comparing options. Two of the exchanges on this site — Bitbuy and Bitstamp — now answer to the same parent, as does Coinsquare, which many Canadians would name as Bitbuy's main domestic competitor. Spreading holdings across "different exchanges" that share an owner does not spread the risk you were trying to spread: a single corporate failure, a single policy change, a single compliance decision can reach all of them. This is the ninth time in this export that apparently competing brands have turned out to share a parent, after the VPN, mattress, hosting, travel, beauty and betting clusters. In this category it matters more than most, because the whole point of holding assets in more than one place is independence.
On Canadian regulation, briefly and precisely. Bitbuy operates as a regulated platform in Canada, and that is a genuine distinction from the offshore venues covered elsewhere on this site. But apply the same question our other exchange pages ask: which regime, and what does it cover? Registration for anti-money-laundering purposes is about financial crime. Securities-regulator oversight of a trading platform concerns conduct, disclosure and the handling of client assets. Neither is deposit insurance, and no crypto platform in any jurisdiction offers the equivalent. Ask specifically what happens to your balance if the platform fails, and get the answer from the client agreement.
The practical summary: the offer is $5 for a $250 deposit, the parent is Robinhood, and if you already hold assets at Bitstamp or Coinsquare you are not diversifying by adding this one.
