Cricket Wireless is a US prepaid mobile provider. Its refer-a-friend programme pays $25 in credit to each side, applied to the monthly wireless plan charge.

There are two clocks, and they are the reason most referrals fail.

The first is on the code. You send a friend a Refer a Friend link; they enter an email address or phone number through it and are issued a referral code, and that code expires 30 days after they receive it. It has to be used to activate a new line on a new Cricket account within that window.

The second is on the credit. Neither of you is paid at activation. Both $25 credits arrive only once the new line has held 60 consecutive days of eligible service. Cancelling inside that window means nobody is paid.

The credit is narrower than cash in three ways worth knowing: it applies only to the monthly plan charge, it expires if the Cricket account is cancelled, and it has no cash value — not redeemable, not transferable, not refundable.
