"Turn your idle internet into cash" is accurate about the resource being consumed and silent about the asset being rented. The spare capacity is real; so is the IP address it travels under.

Repocket pays users for sharing their internet connection, marketed as turning idle internet into cash. The phrase is worth taking apart, because it is precisely true about one thing and silent about the more important one.

The bandwidth genuinely is spare. Most home connections sit unused for most of the day, and using that headroom costs you nothing directly unless you are on a metered plan — which is a real exception worth checking, because a data cap turns this from free to actively expensive.

But spare bandwidth is not what the customer is buying. Businesses pay for these networks because they want web requests to originate from residential IP addresses. A request from a data centre is recognised as such by most websites and treated accordingly; a request from a household connection is not. The scarce, valuable thing is the residential origin — the IP address — and the bandwidth is merely the pipe it travels through. "Idle internet" describes the pipe. What you are renting out is the address.

That distinction is the whole basis for evaluating the trade, and it produces three considerations that no listing in this category volunteers.

Your ISP contract likely prohibits it. Most major consumer providers forbid using a residential line for commercial bandwidth resale, and proxyware falls within those terms. Enforcement is uncommon, but where it happens the results are throttling, a forced move to a business tariff, or disconnection.

You cannot see the traffic. People you cannot identify are making web requests from your connection, and those requests are attributed to your IP. The bulk is ordinary commercial data collection; on any large residential proxy network some portion is not. Platform terms of service in this category generally indemnify the platform rather than the user, which is a clear statement of who is expected to bear that risk. And the compensation is small. Rates across this category run to a few cents per gigabyte relayed, producing a dollar or two a month on a typical connection.
