The ₹500 referral bonus is not paused, or seasonal, or waiting on a promotion. The activity it was paid for — a friend joining and playing a cash tournament — is prohibited by law in India, and so is advertising it.

RummyCircle was one of the largest online rummy platforms in India, run by Games24x7, which also operates My11Circle. Its referral programme paid up to ₹500 per friend. Understanding why that money has stopped requires being precise about the law, because almost every page still listing RummyCircle codes is not.

The Promotion and Regulation of Online Gaming Act, 2025 was passed by Parliament on 21 August 2025 and received Presidential assent the following day. It prohibits online money games. Critically, it draws no distinction between games of skill and games of chance — the distinction on which the entire Indian rummy and fantasy sports industry had been built, and which the courts had upheld for decades. Rummy being a game of skill is no longer a defence, because skill is no longer the test.

Three separate prohibitions matter. Section 5 bans offering an online money game. Section 6 bans advertising one. Section 7 bans facilitating the payments. Offences under sections 5 and 7 are cognizable and non-bailable. Section 9(2) sets the advertising penalty at up to two years' imprisonment or a fine up to ₹50 lakh or both, rising to two-to-three years and ₹50 lakh to ₹1 crore for a repeat offence.

The framework is now fully operational. The Promotion and Regulation of Online Gaming Rules, 2026 were notified on 22 April 2026 and came into force on 1 May 2026. They establish the Online Gaming Authority of India, which can determine whether a particular game counts as an online money game by examining its entry fees, staking mechanism, expectation of winnings and revenue model. That last point matters: a platform cannot escape the Act simply by renaming its deposits.

Games24x7's response was not a legal fight but a retreat. It suspended real-money operations and laid off roughly 500 people — about 70% of its workforce — because the law removed its domestic revenue model outright.

Now look again at what the old referral actually required. You were not paid for a friend downloading the app. You were paid in instalments, and the first instalment landed only once your friend played a cash tournament — that is, only once they had put money at stake. The reward was consideration for inducing a stake. That is exactly the conduct the Act targets, which is why this is not a programme that can quietly return.

What the Act permits is worth stating, because it is frequently misreported as a blanket ban on gaming. E-sports and online social games are expressly promoted by it. If RummyCircle offers a free-to-play version, playing it is lawful. What cannot lawfully exist is a payment to you because someone else staked money.

If you are a former player with a balance, pursue withdrawal through the operator's own support channel. Do not route it through any third party promising to unlock or recover funds; that pattern has followed every gaming shutdown in this market.
