TopCashback's referral bonus is one of the largest in cashback, and it is also one of the most misquoted, because the number changes every single month. The condition underneath it does not.

Two things about this program are worth knowing before any figure.

The first is that the figure moves. TopCashback runs its refer-a-friend bonus as a monthly campaign and publishes new terms each month — amounts from $10 through $50 have all been genuine at different times. Any page quoting a fixed TopCashback referral bonus is quoting one month, and it will be wrong within weeks. Check the current month's offer before you promise anyone anything.

The second is the condition, which does not move, and which explains almost every referral people believe has failed. Your bonus becomes payable when your referred friend reaches a minimum of $10 cashback at Payable status. Not $10 in their account — $10 at Payable status, which happens only after the retailer has confirmed the transaction and the return window has closed.

Then the part that catches everyone. Certain earnings do not count toward that $10. Sign-up bonuses do not count. New Member Deals do not count. Goodwill payments, incentives and contest winnings do not count, and neither does cashback from TopCashback's list of excluded merchants. So the classic failure looks like this: your friend joins, receives a welcome bonus, sees a balance well above $10, and you are still not paid — because none of that balance is cashback they earned by spending.

If you want a referral to actually pay, the useful thing to tell your friend is not "sign up" but "make a real purchase through the site at a normal retailer". That is the only activity that moves the number that matters.

There is a clock too: 180 days from joining. Miss it and the referral does not qualify.

Your friend also has to authenticate their TopCashback account before anything is credited — an ordinary verification step, but one that stalls referrals when it is skipped.
