Tube11 was marketed as a fantasy cricket app with a ₹25 bonus. It was not fantasy cricket. You were predicting which cricket videos would attract the most views — a bet on YouTube metrics.

Tube11 described itself as an innovative fantasy cricket app and offered a ₹25 bonus to download it. What it actually asked you to do was pick which cricket videos would become the most popular, and pay you cash if you picked correctly. The underlying variable was view counts on video platforms.

It is worth being precise about why that is a different product from fantasy sports, because the marketing deliberately blurred it. In fantasy cricket you select players and your result depends on their on-field performance — a domain in which sustained study plausibly produces an edge, which is the argument the industry built its legal position on. In Tube11 your result depended on which video other people chose to watch: a popularity contest driven by thumbnails, platform recommendation algorithms, upload timing and whatever happened to be trending. No amount of cricket knowledge gives you information about a recommendation engine.

So this belongs with the prediction platforms rather than with fantasy sports. That family — Probo, TradeX, MarketWolf, GyanApp and others that framed staking as opinion or prediction trading — was classified as online money games and prohibited under the Promotion and Regulation of Online Gaming Act, 2025. Probo, the largest, shut its real-money business after the Bill passed the Rajya Sabha, and separately the Enforcement Directorate raided four Probo-linked locations in July 2025, with assets of over ₹400 crore connected to the platform frozen or attached during 2025 investigations.

The statutory position is the same one that runs through this whole cluster. Section 2 defines an online money game as one played by paying fees, or depositing money or other stakes, with the expectation of winning monetary or other enrichment, irrespective of whether it turns on skill, chance or both. Section 5 prohibits offering, section 6 prohibits advertising, section 7 prohibits facilitating the payments, and section 9(2) carries up to two years' imprisonment or a fine up to ₹50 lakh, or both. The Rules have been in force since 1 May 2026.

The lesson that outlives the app: when something is sold as a skill game, identify the variable you are actually predicting. If it is the behaviour of a recommendation algorithm or of a crowd, the skill framing is decorative — and the ₹25 that got you through the door was, as usual, credit for playing rather than money.
