Virgin Media's £50 referral is genuinely accurate and paid in real cash — one of the strongest offers in this catalogue, with one timing detail worth knowing.

Virgin Media's refer-a-friend pays £50 to the referrer and £50 to the new customer, across broadband, TV, home phone and Volt packages.

The part that matters more than the amount: it is paid as actual cash — to a UK bank account or PayPal, through the Aklamio referral platform. Not bill credit, not a voucher, not points.

That distinction is significant, because most large consumer brands pay referrals in credit against their own service, which is worth face value only if the recipient keeps buying from them — a retention device wearing a reward's clothes. Money in a bank account is worth its face value to anybody, including somebody who cancels the next day, which puts this near the top of the reward-instrument scale for this catalogue.

The timing takes longer than "instant" might suggest. The actual sequence is:

One practical note on the mechanism: the programme runs through Aklamio, a third-party referral platform, which means there is an account there as well as with Virgin Media. The money sits in that account until actively withdrawn — so withdraw it. An unwithdrawn balance on a platform rarely opened is one of the easiest rewards in this catalogue to simply forget about.

And the point worth more than the £50, as with any telecoms contract: a broadband or TV contract is an 18-to-24-month commitment costing well over a thousand pounds across its term.
