Smiles coins are a loyalty currency earned by eating there, which is a different thing from a referral reward — and the distinction changes what you should expect.

We could not source published referral terms for Barbeque Nation, and the coin figures circulating do not trace back to a Barbeque Nation source. What exists and is well established is Smiles, its loyalty programme.

The distinction matters. Smiles coins are earned by dining — you eat, you accumulate coins, and you redeem them against future bills. That is a loyalty scheme rewarding your own repeat custom, not a referral programme rewarding you for bringing someone new. Conflating the two sets the wrong expectation, because a loyalty currency accrues from your spending rather than from anyone else's.

Restaurant loyalty currencies generally carry the same three conditions, and they are worth checking in your own account rather than assuming.

Redemption limits. Loyalty coins commonly cannot cover a whole bill — a cap applies per visit, often as a percentage of the total, so a large balance is released across several meals rather than paying for one outright. Expiry. Coins typically lapse on a rolling basis from when they are earned, which quietly removes balances belonging to people who visit occasionally — precisely the customers least likely to notice.

Exclusions. Loyalty redemption is frequently unavailable on discounted covers, festival pricing and set-price promotions, which in a buffet chain covers a substantial share of the occasions people actually visit.

None of that makes the programme not worth joining — it is free, and coins earned on meals you were buying anyway are a genuine return. It means the balance shown is not equivalent to that many rupees off your next visit, and treating it as such leads to the disappointment this category reliably produces.
