Sweatcoin Referral Code

Sweatcoin runs two currencies with similar names, and almost everything written about it conflates them. One cannot be cashed out at all; the other is worth about a twentieth of a cent.

Sweatcoin pays you for walking, and understanding what it pays you in requires separating two things that sound identical.

Sweatcoins are the in-app currency. They cannot be cashed out. There is no exchange rate, because there is no exchange — sweatcoins exist only inside the app and are spent in its marketplace on brand discounts, free trials, occasional physical products, daily auctions and charity donations. Their value is whatever those offers are worth to you, and independent estimates put that indirectly at somewhere between 1 and 5 cents per sweatcoin, with the honest figure at the bottom of that range.

SWEAT is a separate thing: a cryptocurrency token, tradeable on exchanges, priced around $0.0006. At that price you need roughly 1,700 SWEAT to make a dollar. It is the route by which app activity can become actual money, and it is a different currency from the sweatcoins in your balance.

Conflating the two is the single most common error in writing about this app, and it flatters the numbers considerably in both directions. A four-figure sweatcoin balance is not a four-figure anything.

None of that makes Sweatcoin pointless. Being paid a small amount for walking you were doing anyway is a reasonable proposition, and the marketplace discounts have real value if they happen to be on things you would buy. The mistake is treating accumulated sweatcoins as savings. They are closer to a loyalty-scheme balance than to money, and the app is best judged on whether its marketplace offers anything you actually want.

The referral works the same way as the rest of the app: you are rewarded in sweatcoins for people who join and walk. Apply the same conversion before deciding what a referral is worth to you.

One practical caution for step-counting apps generally: they require continuous background access to motion data to verify steps, which has battery and privacy implications worth weighing against a reward measured in cents.
