Trip.com advertises up to £200 in Trip Coins. That phrase contains three separate things worth checking, and none of them is £200.

Trip.com sells flights, hotels and train tickets with multilingual support across many markets. Its referral advertises up to £200 worth of Trip Coins.

Take the phrase apart, because each element does separate work.

"Up to" is a ceiling. As with every ranged offer in this project — CASHe's ₹100–₹3,000, Trade Republic's €10–€200 free stock — the top of a range is the advertised figure and the bottom is the realistic one. Establish what an ordinary referral actually pays before treating £200 as relevant to anything.

"Trip Coins" is a wallet currency, not money. It is the same instrument as GoCash, Zingcash, OYO Rupee, Fab credits and NMS SuperCash examined across this export, and the same three questions decide its value every time:

The redemption cap — what proportion of a booking coins may pay for. This is the term that matters most and is published least. A balance capped at a tenth of a booking requires spending ten times its face value to use in full.
The expiry — travel wallet balances lapse, typically in months.
The minimum booking value below which coins cannot be applied at all.

"Worth £200" is a valuation the issuer has made of its own currency, which is exactly the construction this site unpicked on beauty boxes: an internally-generated number attached to something with no external market. Find the three terms above and the phrase becomes readable; without them it is not a figure at all.

Whether the price includes what you assume. Baggage, seat selection, payment-method surcharges and local taxes are commonly excluded from a headline fare, and an OTA's displayed price and final payable amount can differ substantially. Compare final payable figures, not search results.

What happens when something changes. This is where OTAs diverge most from booking direct. A cancellation, a schedule change or a disruption handled through an intermediary involves two companies rather than one, and refunds routed through an agent are consistently slower. On a flexible or uncertain trip, booking direct is frequently worth paying more for, and that is a judgement about the trip rather than about the platform.

Whether the fare is what the airline calls it. OTAs sometimes sell fare types with restrictions that are not obvious at the point of comparison, so checking the fare conditions rather than the price is the discipline that avoids the expensive surprise.

On the referral: a wallet balance denominated in an issuer-valued currency, capped by an unpublished redemption rule, expiring on an unstated schedule, is the least evaluable form of reward in this export. Compare it with the batch's own alternative — Busbud's $5 credit, which is small and legible — and prefer the legible one.
