HealthKart pays ₹200 cashback. The more useful thing to understand is that most of what it sells is regulated as food rather than as medicine, and what that changes.

HealthKart sells health, nutrition and wellness products — protein supplements, vitamins, sports nutrition — across many brands. Its referral pays ₹200 cashback.

The distinction that matters is which rulebook a product sits under. In India, a medicine is governed by the Drugs and Cosmetics Act, 1940 and its Rules: it must demonstrate safety and efficacy for a stated indication before it can be sold, and what it may claim is tightly constrained. A nutraceutical or dietary supplement is governed instead under food regulation, administered by the FSSAI. Food regulation is real regulation — it governs safety, composition, labelling and permitted claims — but it does not require a product to prove it treats a condition, because a food is not permitted to claim that it does.

The consequence for a shopper is specific. When a supplement is described as "supporting" something, "aiding" something, or "promoting" something, that vocabulary is not vagueness — it is the language a product is permitted to use precisely because it has not demonstrated, and is not claiming, a therapeutic effect. A medicine says what it treats. A supplement says what it supports. Once you notice the pattern, the shelf becomes considerably easier to read.

This platform was also named in the February 2023 CDSCO action. The Central Drugs Standard Control Organisation issued show-cause notices to 20 online pharmacies — including Flipkart, Amazon, Tata 1mg and HealthKart — alleging sale of medicines prohibited from sale without a valid prescription. The platforms responded that they act as intermediaries between consumers and licensed pharmacies rather than as sellers. That is worth knowing because it indicates the platform sells across both categories, and the two carry different obligations.

What is worth checking on a supplement, in order:

The actual dose of the actual ingredient. A proprietary blend that lists ingredients without individual quantities tells you nothing about whether any of them is present at a level studied in research. This is the most common way supplement labels are uninformative while being entirely accurate.

Third-party testing. Independent verification that the contents match the label matters more in this category than in most, because the compliance burden is lighter than for medicines.

Cost per serving of the active ingredient, not price per tub. Tub sizes and serving sizes vary specifically enough that headline prices are not comparable.

Interactions. Supplements can interact with prescription medication — this is not a theoretical concern for anyone on regular medicines, and it is worth a conversation with a doctor or pharmacist rather than a product page.

On the ₹200: it is cash-denominated and flat, which makes it a cleaner structure than the wallet credits elsewhere in this batch. Just be aware that the largest determinant of value in supplements is not the discount but whether the product does anything — and food regulation does not require anyone to have shown that it does.
