My11Circle was among the largest fantasy platforms in India and a prominent cricket sponsor. The bonus cash it advertised for referrals was a deposit inducement, and deposits are exactly what the 2025 Act ended.

The Promotion and Regulation of Online Gaming Act, 2025 banned online real-money gaming, receiving Presidential assent on 22 August 2025. My11Circle was named among the major platforms affected and stopped its money-based contests along with Dream11, MPL, Zupee, PokerBaazi and the rest of the category.

My11Circle was launched in January 2019 by Games24x7, the company founded by Trivikraman Thampy and Bhavin Pandya, which also operated Gamezy in the same category. The scale of what stopped is worth stating: the industry body figures cited during the debate put roughly ₹25,000 crore of investment and around ₹20,000 crore of annual GST collections at risk, across a sector employing tens of thousands of people.

The referral mechanics matter here because of what "bonus cash" actually was. It was not a payment — it was contest credit, usable only to enter paid contests, and typically released in fragments against entry fees rather than handed over. It existed to get money into the system. With paid contests gone, the currency has nothing to be spent on and no route by which either side could receive it.

Fantasy platforms have generally pivoted to free-to-play formats funded by advertising rather than closing entirely. If you enjoy the format, the app may still be usable; what it will not do is pay you or your friend anything.

Note also that industry participants have been consulting lawyers about challenging the Act, arguing it lacked consultation and wrongly sweeps in skill-based formats. That litigation does not change the present position, and no referral is payable while the ban stands.
