Genie Says

ParcelCompare is a UK parcel broker that continues to trade, having filed accounts to September 2025, but it ranks around #30 of 33 courier services on Trustpilot across roughly 13,955 reviews. The reason is structural rather than specific to this firm: you book with the broker while DHL, UPS or DPD carries the parcel, so a loss is claimed against the broker, who must then claim against the carrier — an extra link where delays live. The savings are still real, especially internationally, so match the choice to the parcel: book direct when losing the contents would genuinely hurt, and use the broker when it would merely annoy you. Check the non-compensation list before paying for cover, since an excluded item is uncovered regardless.

How to Use a ParcelCompare Referral Code

Know who your claim is against

You book with the broker but DHL, UPS or DPD carries the parcel — so a loss is claimed against the broker, who must then claim against the carrier.

Match the choice to the parcel

If losing the contents would genuinely hurt, book direct and pay the difference. If it would merely annoy you, use the broker and keep the saving.

Read the non-compensation list first

Jewellery, electronics, glass, perfume and second-hand goods are commonly excluded — and an excluded item is uncovered even if you bought the protection.

Weigh and measure the box yourself

Under-declaring is the commonest cause of a surcharge that wipes out the saving, and carriers re-weigh and bill afterwards.

Why Choose ParcelCompare?

Your contract is with the broker, not the carrier

That extra link in the claims chain is where the delay lives, and why broker ratings sit below the carriers they resell.

Ranked around #30 of 33 in its category

On roughly 13,955 Trustpilot reviews — near the bottom of its own sector, on a large sample.

The savings are still real

Brokers buy wholesale and resell below carriers' retail counter prices, especially internationally. The trade-off is the claims chain, not the price.

Bought cover can be worth nothing

If your item is on the non-compensation list it is uncovered even though you paid for protection. Read the list before paying.

About ParcelCompare

Brokers are genuinely cheaper than booking direct. The saving is real, and so is the trade-off, and almost nobody explains the second one.

The company is trading. Parcel Compare Limited has filed accounts to 30 September 2025, with the next set due by 30 September 2026. What is worth knowing is not its solvency but its service record: it ranks around #30 of 33 courier services on Trustpilot, across roughly 13,955 reviews. That is near the bottom of its own category, on a large sample.

The reason matters more than the ranking, because it is structural and applies to every parcel broker rather than this one alone.

When you book through a broker, the parcel is carried by DHL, UPS, DPD or another carrier — but your contract is with the broker. So when something goes wrong, you cannot claim against the carrier whose van collected it. You claim against the broker, who must then claim against the carrier.

That extra link is where the delay and the frustration live, and it is why broker ratings across the whole sector sit below the carriers they resell. One reviewer describes a parcel sent in October 2025 and confirmed lost in June 2026 — eight months. That case is one person's account, but the shape of it is the predictable consequence of the structure.

None of which means avoid a broker. The savings are real and often large, particularly internationally, because brokers buy wholesale and resell below a carrier's own retail counter price. It means matching the choice to the parcel, and that is a single, simple rule:

If losing the contents would genuinely hurt, book direct with the carrier and pay the difference. If it would merely annoy you, use the broker and keep the saving. The premium for booking direct is, in effect, the price of a shorter claims chain — and on a low-value parcel that is not worth paying, while on an irreplaceable one it always is.

The checks before you book, which take two minutes and decide everything that follows:

1. The prohibited and non-compensation list. This is the one that catches people. Brokers exclude a long list from cover — commonly jewellery, electronics, glass, perfume, alcohol, tobacco and anything second-hand or of "sentimental value". An item on that list is uncovered even if you bought the protection, which means the cover you paid for can be worth exactly nothing on the parcel you bought it for. Read it before paying, not after.
2. What the included cover actually is. A default figure such as £20 or £50 is standard, and topping it up is usually cheap — but see point 1 before assuming a top-up helps.
3. The claims window and the evidence required. Proof of value, proof of postage and photographs of the packaging are typically all required, and the window can be short. Photograph the item and the sealed package before it leaves you — a claim without that evidence usually fails whatever the merits.
4. Who actually carries it, which the quote should name. A cheap quote on a carrier with no local depot near the destination is a slow parcel, and the delivery estimate on a broker quote is the carrier's target rather than a promise.
5. Weigh and measure the box yourself, including packaging. Under-declaring is the single commonest cause of a surcharge that wipes out the saving — carriers re-weigh automatically and bill afterwards, so you find out once it is too late to choose differently.
